🏠 General House Etiquette

😴 Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are from 22:00 – 7:00 every day. Respect others’ right to high-quality sleep and relaxation.
– Everyone has different sleeping schedules. Some may be heavy sleepers, while others may wake up from noise. Learn the schedules of others and work around them.
– Being considerate and quiet isn’t difficult, but creating a comfortable living environment becomes a challenge when we aren’t mindful of our noise.
– Repeated noise complaints will be investigated and dealt with as sleep deprivation seriously harms the mental health of your housemates.
– If you want to socialize after 10 pm, go to the chill corner on the ground floor.

🫧 Cleaning Supplies
All cleaning supplies are stored above the dryer on the middle floor.
– The vacuum cleaner and mop are stored next to the fridge in the middle floor kitchen.

♻️ Trash Disposal & Sorting

🗑️ Sorting
– Separate trash into “Bio”, “Plastic & Metal”, “Paper”, and “Mixed”.
– There is no bin for glass but the trash collection location has a separate bin for anything made of glass.
– If the trash is plastic but dirty (for example: plastic meat packaging), take it out to the trash bins outside as soon as you finish cooking. These containers attract insects and smell terrible after less than a day in the trash.

🚮 Disposal
– If “Bio” or “Mixed” bins are full, empty them, replace the bags, and clean the bin if necessary.
– Take sorted trash to designated bins at Glagoljaška ulica near UP Famnit entrance.

Frequency
– Daily or once every 2 days for “Bio” and “Mixed”, Weekly for “Plastic & Metal” and “Paper”.

➡️ Pro Tips
🎲 Don’t be “That Person”:
There are no winners in the game of Trash Jenga. If the trash is full, be cool and take it out.

🍳 Kitchen Etiquette

🧼 It’s easy to keep the kitchen clean and organized at all times with a simple mindset:
Clean as you cook and leave the kitchen cleaner than it was when you arrived.

❄️ Fridge Etiquette
– Label your food with your name and date of purchase, and dispose of expired food weekly.
– If you notice someone else’s food is past its expiry date, let them know that it’s time to remove it before various flora and smells develop.

🍽️ Clean Dishes, Grease, & Oil Disposal Etiquette
Frequency:
After each use.

🚰 Avoid Sink Disposal
Never pour grease or oil down the sink as it will lead to severe plumbing issues.
– The same goes for bits of food; that’s what the “Bio” trash is for.

🧻 Wipe Off Grease
For small amounts of grease, use tissues to wipe off and dispose of in the “Bio” trash.
– Wipe off any oil splatters on walls or surfaces immediately after cooking.

🫧 Wash
– Apply dish soap, scrub gently with a sponge, rinse with warm water, and dry properly before storing.
– Rinse brushes and sponges under hot water, squeeze dry, and store properly.

🍽️ Dry
– Put your dishes onto the drying rack.
– When the dishes are dry, put them away in the cabinets.

➡️ Pro Tips
💶
Clogged Pipes Lead to Sleepless Nights: The cost of fixing plumbing problems caused by dumping oil in the kitchen sink is almost always the responsibility of the residents. They are notoriously hard to clean, even for experienced professionals. Save money on unnecessary plumbing fees by following these simple procedures.

🧽 A Dry Sponge is a Happy Sponge: Always use dish soap on the sponge and squeeze the water out after use. If the sponge or brush is oily, boil water and pour on them to de-grease and use a cleaning solution. If that doesn’t help, it’s time for a new sponge.

💨 Good Ventilation is Your Friend: Proper ventilation in the kitchen is essential to whisk away smoke, odors, and excess heat, making the space pleasant and comfortable while cooking. So turn it on as it helps reduce airborne grease and keep your kitchen cleaner, promoting a healthier and more enjoyable cooking environment.

🚾 Bathroom Etiquette

🚽 Toilet Etiquette
– Always flush the toilet after use. If necessary, use a toilet brush to clean any residues.
– Wipe the seat to ensure it’s clean for the next person.
– Lower the toilet seat after use as a courtesy to others.
Frequency: After each use.

💦 Sink Etiquette
– Rinse away soap, toothpaste, or other residues after use.
– Use a non-abrasive cleaner for stains.
– Do not leave food particles in the sink.
If you need to throw up, do not use the sink; use the toilet instead.
Frequency: After each use.

🚿 Shower Etiquette
– Clean up hair from the drain and walls.
– Rinse away any soap or shampoo residues.
Frequency: After each use.

🚻 General WC Etiquette
– Respect others’ privacy and personal space, especially in a communal bathroom setting.
– Ensure personal items are stored properly and not left scattered around.

➡️ Pro Tips
🧻 Teamwork Makes Life Easier: To purchase supplies, such as toilet paper, we recommend buying in bulk together as a house, storing them in a central location (for example, above the dryer), and splitting the cost equally among all residents.

🧺 Washer & Drayer Etiquette

👕 Preparation
– Have your laundry sorted before you head to the laundry room. Check your pockets for loose items.
– Use a measuring cup to dispense detergent, starting with a lesser amount and adjusting as needed to avoid machine damage.

🫧 During Laundry
– Utilize the machines efficiently by setting a timer on your phone to remind you when your laundry cycle is complete.
– Create a Laundry Schedule if necessary, to ensure everyone gets a turn.

🧽 Post Laundry
– Wipe up any spilled detergent, empty lint traps, and leave doors open so the moisture airs out and doesn’t build up in the machine (which can lead to a funky smell or mold).
– Remove your laundry immediately after it’s done to allow the next person to use the machine.
– If you forget to take your clothes out of the washing machine as soon as possible, they will smell and you’ll need to wash again.
Frequency: After each use.

🛠️ Maintenance
– Regularly check the lint and water collection trays, cleaning or emptying them as needed.
– Report any damages or malfunctions to the property manager.
Frequency: Weekly.

🏡 General Etiquette
– Do not use the washing or drying machines after quiet hours start at 22:00.
– If someone forgets to take their clothes out of the machine, handle their laundry with clean hands and place it in a clean basket or on a clean surface.

➡️ Pro Tips
⚡️Save on Electricity: From Friday 10 pm to Monday 6 am electricity is discounted. In order to avoid extra charges for electricity usage, At home we begin laundry during electricity discount hours on the weekend to save on utility costs.

🧪 Common Problem with Detergents: Most modern detergents are really powerful and using excessive amounts regularly will seriously damage your clothes and the washing machine over time (they bubble up inside and build up on the hardware). Use a measuring cup and begin washing with the amount on the lower end of what you think you need. If the laundry is not clean enough you can adjust upwards.

🛏️ Bedroom Etiquette

❄️ Air Conditioning
– If you use AC, close the windows.
– Using AC with the windows open is an irresponsible waste of electricity as you are cooling or heating the street and not your room.

🫧 Bedding Laundry
– Always use a duvet cover, a sheet, and a pillowcase.
– Wash bedding bi-weekly to maintain freshness and avoid funky smells in the room.
Frequency: Bi-weekly.

🧹 Room Cleaning
Maintain a clean atmosphere in the room by vacuuming, wiping down dusty surfaces, and taking care of laundry regularly.
– The vacuum cleaner and mop are stored next to the fridge in the middle floor kitchen.
Frequency: Weekly.

➡️ Pro Tips
💶 Save by Sleeping Comfortably: The cost of replacing the provided blankets and pillows at the end of the rental period is the responsibility of the residents. Save money by taking care of the provided bedding properly.
